Routine Eye Exams

When did you last schedule an eye exam with your eye doctor? If you can't remember, it's likely been too long.

Eye exams are your best defense against vision-stealing eye conditions like glaucoma and cataracts. Clear Vision Center is proud to offer our Rochester patients expert eye care with optometrists and ophthalmologists to keep your eyes happy and healthy.

Eye Exams

For Healthy Eyes

No matter your age, eye exams are essential for keeping your eyes healthy. Your Rochester ophthalmologist uses your eye exam to measure your eyes and determine your prescription.

You may undergo certain tests like refraction, checking the sharpness of your visual acuity, looking at how well your eyes are aligned, examining the structures of your eye with a slit lamp, or seeing the retina. Your eye doctor may also dilate your pupils to get a better view of the back of your eye and any inner structures.

You may also have the pressure inside your eye measured with a test called tonometry to determine if you have an eye condition like glaucoma. If the pressure inside your eye (called intraocular pressure) is elevated, this is often a sign of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a concerning eye condition that causes irreversible and permanent vision loss if left untreated.

How Often to Schedule Exams

How often you require eye exams may depend on factors like your age, family history, and health. If you need visual aids like glasses and contact lenses, you'll need to schedule annual eye exams with your ophthalmologist to ensure you receive an up-to-date prescription in Rochester. However, if you don't need these visual aids, your ophthalmologist will discuss an appropriate eye exam schedule.

Once you turn 40, eye exams become more necessary, as this is when your risk of developing age-related eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration increases. You may need eye exams every one to two years at this point.

After turning 60, you'll need to have eye exams annually. Annual eye exams will ensure that if you have an age-related eye condition, it can be diagnosed quickly and potentially before vision loss has already occurred.

Depending on visual aids can help you see clearly, but if you want a permanent solution, why not consider LASIK? LASIK is a permanent laser vision correction procedure that corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism in qualified patients in Rochester, MI, and the surrounding areas.

Whether you're looking for something that will make allergy season more bearable because you no longer need to depend on contact lenses or want to save money, LASIK is a procedure worth considering. However, it's only appropriate if you qualify for it.

Not a candidate or looking for an alternative to LASIK? We also offer advanced surface ablation (ASA), lens-based LASIK with the EVO ICL (implantable contact lens), as well as a flapless version of LASIK known as SMILE.

LASIK Candidates

Find out if you're a good LASIK candidate by scheduling your LASIK consultation at Clear Vision Center now!

You may be a good candidate for LASIK in Rochester if:

  • You're at least 18 years old

  • You have realistic expectations about what LASIK can achieve
  • You're not currently pregnant or nursing
  • You have healthy eyes and are in good health
  • You have a prescription that's within the treatment levels of what LASIK can treat
  • You have thick enough corneas

If you want to improve your life, LASIK is an excellent first step.

There's no telling the infinite ways that LASIK could improve your life, but having better vision is unlike anything you've ever experienced. Most LASIK patients end up with 20/20 vision or better, meaning their vision is significantly better than when they depended on visual aids.

This is possible because LASIK corrects your vision beyond your original prescription. If you want sharper, more precise, vision, LASIK will help you see like never before.

Do you have blurry vision? Does it sometimes feel like you're looking at the world around you through a dirty or foggy window?

These are often signs of a condition called cataracts. Cataracts occur when the natural lens in your eye becomes cloudy, impacting your ability to see clearly. As a result of this, you may notice other symptoms like:

If this sounds familiar, it may be because of cataracts. But even if you suspect you could have a cataract, it doesn't mean you need cataract surgery immediately.

Why to Get

Cataract Surgery

Most cataract surgeons in Rochester and beyond will only recommend the procedure if you can no longer do what you love because of impaired vision. Are you finding it more challenging to do laundry?

Can you no longer participate in your favorite hobbies and activities because you can't see? If so, it may be time to consider cataract surgery. But if you aren't having these issues and can still see, you likely don't need the procedure.

The only way to know if you need cataract surgery is to schedule an appointment with your ophthalmologist at Clear Vision Center in Rochester, MI.
